"Abstract painter reaches across the divide, and the results are impressive" - Ray Rinaldi, Denver Post, 11/27/16
We were so pleased to see our current exhibition, "Crossover," on the cover of the Denver Post's Life and Culture section on Sunday! We just released these two stunning limited editions by artist Samuel Gomez, "Scarecrow" and "In Feudum Perpetuo." Available in two sizes starting at just $250. Originals debut this weekend at ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, the event where Gomez erupted onto the scene in 2013 with a 5x18 foot triptych that sold for over $100,000.
"Doug Kacena’s confident style of contemporary abstract expressionism recounts a lifetime’s passion told in dynamic contrast of potent impasto, thin washes and pure fearlessness. Kacena works through a process of intuitive painting; it is explorative, reactive and interruptive. “I start with a meditation and set my intention,” he says. “From that place I directly start on the painting as that first note to react to. I scrape away at the surface to reveal layers of paint. It is a balance of application and removal.” The artist wants to make art interesting for individuals who don’t find art interesting anymore by constructing a dialogue that is relevant to their lives right now. He owns a warehouse where he lives (in a former art gallery space) with two studios and spaces for 16 other artists of multiple disciplines. “My paintings don’t always reference recognizable form,” he says. “The results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted. With a subtle and minimalistic abstracted approach, the works are often about contact with architecture and basic living elements—man and nature.” Kacena is active in the Colorado arts community. He is the co-owner of Artuvus Studios, gallery director of Evergreen Fine Art Gallery and Sculpture Garden in Evergreen, Colorado, and is represented by Mike Wright Gallery in Denver. Kacena is a featured artist in the upcoming exhibition Continuum at Mike Wright Gallery with Valerio D’Ospina and other gallery artists, a show studying black and white imagery."
