Colorado artist, Doug Kacena, received his undergraduate education in Fine Art (Painting) and Art History (Modern & Contemporary American Art) from the University of Colorado in Boulder. First Published at age 11 in “A Day in the Life of America”, Doug developed his artistic skills young. He began showing in galleries during his collegiate studies in Boulder. After graduation he continued showing regionally and nationally and later becoming the co-founder and director of Gallery 13 (Denver) in 1999. Doug has taught art and art therapy to developmentally disabled adults through the state of Colorado. He has volunteered as a Steering Committee member, judge and coordinator for the CHUN Mural project from 2000-2013. In 2000, he founded Denver Artists Services Association (DASA) a not-for-profit organization providing guidance for artists. In 2000, Doug started designing handmade Tibetan and Nepalese Rugs and to this day he has had 8 lines produced. In addition to his artwork, Doug is a talented designer working in print, commercials and film and produced “Come to Play”, nominated for a Heartland Regional Emmy in 2006. Kacena continues to work and show in Denver and is a member of Artuvs studio. Doug is very active in the Colorado arts community and is the Director of Exhibitions and Curator at Evergreen Fine Art Gallery and Sculpture Garden in Evergreen.
